Instead of wallowing in injustice, let’s finally wake up from the delusion that we have any more time to waste. Rape culture kills. Rehtaeh Parsons is dead and we are in a state of emergency.
Organize your neighborhood or school against rape culture: run consent education workshops and recruit participants to pledge their stance against violence. March, demonstrate, to publicly prove to all that those who inflict violence on others will not be supported or included by your community. Every time a publication runs a piece promoting rape culture, write a letter in response. Reject slut-shaming and victim-blaming of all forms. Loudly. Model respect for others’ bodily autonomy and stand up for your own in everyday situations to promote a culture of consent. Intervene if you see a dangerous situation developing, and teach others to do the same. Combat the transmission of rape culture from one generation to the next: teach kids to be better than we are. Don’t invite rapists to your parties (I can’t believe I even have to say that, but I do). Make sure survivors in your area have somewhere to turn for justice and support, and to stop their rapists from re-offending. If this resource doesn’t exist, create it. Refuse to tolerate speech that promotes rape; speak up even–no, especially–when to do so would be rude. Listen to a survivor when no one else will."
“Rape culture kills. Rehtaeh Parsons is dead and we are in a state of emergency.”
This is so clutch.
AVC: How does that relate to abortion?
WHM: If every baby has to come into the world—okay, if that’s your rule—then you jolly well better take care of them. And not on the level that we do. Better. A lot better. This is the most civilized, advanced nation in the world. This is “In God we trust,” so don’t complain about your taxes in that area if every baby’s gotta be born."
And Greg Evans’ Luann takes a hard line against women being slutty cockteases responsible for their own rapes. Way to go, asshole! Here’s where to get in touch with his syndicate.
Well fuck. If I was looking for a laugh today, I’m out of luck. Apparently the world’s supply of humor has all gone rotten today and has been thrown out, and now we have to wait until our next paycheck clears before we can go to Walmart to buy anymore.
Where do we begin? Let’s start with this…
“ The first tweets were about some comedian named Colin Kane (who I won’t link to) because feminists and people trying to sleep with feminists are bitching about Kane’s material which is usually mysoginistic and hateful to everyone.”
HAHAHA go fuck yourself.
I followed this today (the Kyle Kinane part) because Kyle Kinane has for a while been one of my favorite standup comedians working, and because the people he was being a douchebag to are people I really like. Some people tried to call out Kyle on the fact that a white man telling people to calm down about misogyny almost always comes across as being pretty douchey, and he acted defensive, of course, and it helped me remember: You can’t fucking trust white men. There’s no reason to try. Kyle Kinane’s standup comedy is very funny, and he doesn’t make misogynist or homophobic or racist or cissexist jokes because he knows it’s funniest to side with the disenfranchised, not the bullies. But he’s still a fucking white man, and today he reminded us all what that entails. So I guess today was nice in that way. It validated that nausea we feel when we talk to white men.
Oh man cool! Another straight cisman wants to find common ground with conservatives! Have fun, Louis CK.
I posted a photo earlier wherein I referenced Sarte, bad faith, Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks. You, rightfully, pointed out that it wasn’t very feminist of me to pit two female artists against each other. I apologize if you were offended.
I’m a black feminist who finds Nicki Minaj to be problematic. I realize that this is not the venue to discuss my feelings about her; I’ll work it out in my next paper.
Again, many apologies, and have a good weekend.
THIS IS HOW IT’S DONE. You say something that people have a problem with, you apologize sincerely and you move on. Is this the only place on the internet where getting called out doesn’t turn into defensive recrimination?
I also love Azealia Banks, and I love you, Feminist Ryan Gosling.
historicalfuture asked: are all cops racist or do they just enforce a racist social order?
What’s the difference?
Anonymous asked: sorry but merely identifying as a woman doesnt make you a woman
